Week 20 - We Didn't Start the Fire
Hello!!!
This week was fairly eventful for being in quarantine! This week managed to involve three firemen, a police officer, and a bishop in a semi truck! Why? Because Sister Combrink burnt a tortilla in the church's kitchen and set off the entire fire system! It was a pretty interesting experience, that's for sure.
We went back out to do some good old service at the Halls, and we planted probably a good 50-75 baby trees in the space of 2 hours, and it was the best part of the week! We also went to help a family in our ward weed dandelions to get their house ready to sell. I have never seen that many dandelions in one place! Our hands were thoroughly caked in dirt, then they offered to feed us. They went inside to grab burgers, then brought them out without giving us a chance to get any dirt off of our hands and without a plate. So, we ate those burgers with our filthy hands! Builds the immune system, right?
To be fair though, the members are honestly who are keeping me going out here. Sister Taylor and I made a goal to text every single member household in our area, and as of Saturday, we completed that goal! It also resulted in us having 24 lessons last week!! They have responded with so much love and kindness. Even if I'm not teaching a ton of people, at least I can help these members in any way I can! Picnics with members are also better than a breath of fresh air. Having human interaction is such a blessing! The only bad thing that has happened from texting all those members was the one wrong number we ran into who turned out to be a VERY rude basher. How fun!
The two people we are teaching are so ready to be baptized, but something is holding both of them up and we just can't figure out what it is. It's making it rather tempting to lose hope, because we just do not know how to help them. Jordin, one of the women I was teaching back in Bismarck, was able to contact me this week and is still reading her Book of Mormon and says she knows it's true! I don't know how long her journey will take, but I'm hopeful for her as well. Then there is one more person I've been teaching: Sister Taylor! I've been teaching her the piano! She's really dedicated to learning as well, so she's coming along quickly, especially given the limited time and resources we have!
I hope you all have a good week.
